Andrew Clarke has been the defining DJ of drum and bass for the better part of three decades. He co-founded RAM Records as a teenager in the early 1990s, and as one half of Origin Unknown alongside Ant Miles he was responsible for "Valley of the Shadows", a track whose "long dark tunnel" vocal remains one of the most recognisable samples the genre has produced. Behind the decks he is known simply as The Executioner, a nickname earned through the rapid-fire double drops and triple drops that turned his sets into something closer to a performance than a mix. His marathon Alive & Kicking and All Night shows have filled Alexandra Palace, Wembley Arena and festival main stages worldwide, and he has collected more Best DJ awards from the drum and bass community than any other artist in the scene. As a label boss his influence is just as large. RAM Records developed Chase & Status, Sub Focus, Wilkinson, Culture Shock, Loadstar and Delta Heavy, effectively building the roster that carried drum and bass into the UK mainstream. Andy C remains the benchmark against which every other selector in the genre is measured.
