Marly Marl, who also goes by Marly De-Underground, has been playing jungle and drum and bass in London for more than 30 years. He is no relation to the American hip hop producer of almost the same name. He grew up on the dances at Biology, Fun City and Telepathy and was a key figure at De-Underground Records in East London. As an agency DJ he sat on the Unique Artist roster next to Randall, Andy C and DJ Hype before moving through AWOL, World Dance, Playaz and Metalheadz, and he later founded the Best Of The Best collective, which has taken him on tour abroad. These days he also runs Boy In The Basement, a production label that pairs the foundations of the jungle sound with newer ideas.
