Buunshin
Genres: Neurofunk
Ferry Mellegers, the Rotterdam-based producer behind Buunshin, came to drum and bass through an unlikely route. With no musical background, he started producing at the age of 20 after a friend introduced him to the genre. As a mathematically-minded, detail-obsessed creator, it was the technical challenges and puzzles of drum and bass production that drew him in. He enrolled at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, where he honed his craft and discovered that his analytical approach to sound design could yield something genuinely boundary-pushing. Buunshin spent three years in the studio before releasing a single note, refusing to put anything out until he felt it met his exacting standards. When his debut "Presence" EP finally landed on DIVIDID -- the underground label co-founded by IMANU and Abis -- it went straight to number one on the Beatport drum and bass chart, supported on dub by Noisia, Mefjus, Camo & Krooked, Phace, and Ed Rush. The name "Buunshin" derives from the Japanese word "bunshin," meaning body or embodiment, with an extra letter added for discoverability. His productions are defined by intricate sound design, genre-blending experimentation, and a meticulous attention to detail that sets him apart from the crowd. Drawing on influences from across the electronic spectrum, Buunshin makes music that challenges conventions while remaining rooted in the weight and momentum of drum and bass. He has quickly become one of the most respected names in the underground, championed by the biggest artists in the game.
Buunshin has 0 upcoming drum & bass event(s) listed on DNBRAVE.
