Dominick Martin is, by broad consensus within the scene, the most quietly influential producer drum and bass has. Working from Belfast, largely outside the industry machinery, he has released an enormous body of work through his own Signature Records label since the early 2000s, including the long running Shelflife series of collections. His production is instantly identifiable and almost impossible to imitate. The drums are loose and human where most of the genre is rigid, the bass is warm rather than aggressive, and the whole thing carries a melancholy and a musicality that owes more to soul and dub than to rave. He is equally comfortable making something built for a dark room at five in the morning as something you would listen to on headphones. He has released across Creative Source, Soul:r and Metalheadz alongside his own imprint, and his back catalogue runs to hundreds of tracks.
