Reinhard Rietsch and Markus Wagner have spent their career refusing to sit in one part of drum and bass. The Viennese duo came up through Hospital Records with albums including Above & Beyond and Cross the Line that paired huge melodic hooks with production polish, then moved into far darker and more technical territory with Zeitgeist and Mosaik. That range is unusual. They can write something built for a festival main stage singalong and something built for a neurofunk floor, and both sound like the same act. Their collaborative work with Mefjus and others has produced some of the most respected records at the technical end of the genre. They have also taken the material into orchestral territory, performing their catalogue with a full symphony orchestra, one of the more ambitious things anyone in drum and bass has attempted. Camo & Krooked are one of the genre's most complete acts.
