Chopstick Dubplate
Genres: Drum & Bass, Jungle
Jacky Murda started Chopstick Dubplate in 1998, cutting its first 10 inch records on his own lathe in Brooklyn and pressing them at Hitbound, the plant run by the Hookim family of Channel One. Rather than sampling, the crew recorded Jamaican vocalists such as Terry Ganzie, Pinchers, Johnny Osbourne and Jah Mason over jungle versions of classic reggae riddims, a method widely credited with sparking the ragga jungle revival. The outfit grew to include Aries, King Yoof and Tuffist, working between London, Bristol, Barcelona and San Francisco. Key records include the 21 Murda Shots EP from 2004, the Murda We Charge For album with Mr Williamz, and their biggest tune, Tonight. In 2015 they won Best Record Label at the We Love Jungle Awards. A Chopstick session runs like a sound system dance, heavy on exclusive dubplates, reggae vocals, sirens and lickshots.
Chopstick Dubplate has 1 upcoming drum & bass event(s) listed on DNBRAVE.
