Fitzroy Heslop is one half of the most important DJ partnership in drum and bass history. He met Grooverider through the Brixton pirate station Phase One, and in 1988 the pair launched Rage at Heaven, a Thursday night session that became the crucible in which jungle was forged and a pilgrimage site for the scene's earliest converts. Where Grooverider gravitated toward darkness, Fabio became the champion of soulful, musical drum and bass. He founded Creative Source Records in 1994 and spent decades nurturing the melodic and liquid end of the spectrum, and his ear for emerging talent was unmatched. Countless careers began with a record in his bag. From 1998 he and Grooverider hosted a BBC Radio 1 show that ran for over a decade and put drum and bass in front of a national audience every week. The pair received DJ Mag's Outstanding Contribution to Music award in 2015. Fabio's individual legacy is his unwavering belief that the genre could be as emotionally rich as any other.
