DJ Marky
Genres: Jungle, Liquid
Marco Antonio da Silva was born on 14 June 1975 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and under the name DJ Marky became the artist who put Brazilian drum and bass on the global map. He discovered the genre in the early 1990s through imported UK records, and by the mid-decade had become the leading figure in a thriving Sao Paulo scene. In 1998, V Recordings boss Bryan Gee witnessed Marky playing in a club in Sao Paulo and immediately invited him to London, setting in motion a career that would bridge two continents. His breakthrough came with "LK" (2002), produced alongside XRS and built on a hypnotic sample of Jorge Ben and Toquinhos classic "Carolina Carol Bela." The track became a massive crossover hit, reaching the UK Top 20 and earning a slot on Top of the Pops -- an extraordinary achievement for a drum and bass record by a Brazilian artist. In 2003 he founded Innerground Records, creating a platform for the distinctive Brazilian take on the sound that blended warmth, groove and infectious musicality. DJ Marky is celebrated as one of the most technically gifted DJs in the genre, known for seamless mixing and an ability to read a dancefloor with instinctive precision. He has released music on labels including V Recordings, Shogun Audio and his own Innerground, and remains one of the most in-demand international acts on the drum and bass circuit. His contribution proved that the genre was truly global.
DJ Marky has 2 upcoming drum & bass event(s) listed on DNBRAVE.
