Etherwood

Genres: Liquid, Atmospheric

Edward Allen, known to friends as Woody and to the drum and bass world as Etherwood, is a singer-songwriter and producer from Lincoln, England who discovered the genre in the late 1990s but did not release his first production until 2012. His musical beginnings were rooted in guitar-based songwriting -- he played guitar in Jakwob's live band before stepping out on his own, and that organic, band-influenced approach would become the foundation of his distinctive sound. His debut appearance on Hospital Records' Sick Music 3 compilation with "Give It Up" immediately signalled something different: drum and bass built around live instrumentation, tender vocals, and folk-inflected melody. His self-titled debut album on Med School (Hospital Records' imprint) landed in November 2013, entering the UK Dance Chart at number four and winning him Best Newcomer DJ and Best Newcomer Producer at the Drum and Bass Arena Awards that year. Blue Leaves (2015) expanded his range with richer instrumentation and charted at number 47 on the UK Albums Chart, while Neon Dust (2021) refined his vision further. At one point, he peaked at number four on Billboard's "Next Big Sound" chart, a rare achievement for a drum and bass artist. Etherwood stands apart in drum and bass as an artist who sings, plays, and writes with a singer-songwriter sensibility rarely found in electronic music. His live performances blur the line between a DJ set and a concert, featuring his own vocals and guitar work alongside rolling breakbeats. He has brought an entire new audience into the genre -- listeners who might never have explored drum and bass without his warmly human gateway.

Etherwood has 1 upcoming drum & bass event(s) listed on DNBRAVE.
