General Levy
Genres: Jungle, Drum & Bass
Paul Levy grew up in Harlesden and Wembley in north west London, writing lyrics from the age of 12 and co-founding his first sound system, Third Dimension, two years later before chatting on Java and Tippertone. Dancehall releases on Fashion Records came first. Then, in 1994, he voiced Incredible with producer M-Beat. The original reached number 39, while the remix climbed to number eight and went gold, carrying jungle into the mainstream and later turning up in Ali G Indahouse. His remark to The Face that he ran jungle caused a backlash and he was shut out of some raves for a time, but the record outlasted the row. Since then he has worked with Chase & Status, Mark Morrison and Suggs, cut the album Rumble in the Jungle with Top Cat, and in 2022 published an autobiography named after the hit. He performs as a ragga MC rather than a DJ, toasting over jungle and drum and bass with a sound system deejay's delivery.
General Levy has 4 upcoming drum & bass event(s) listed on DNBRAVE.
