J Majik is James Spratling from Northwood in north west London, who started DJing in his early teens and first released in 1992 as DJ Dextrous on Lemon D's Planet Earth label, switching names around 1994. He was one of the original Metalheadz crew on Goldie's label, with Your Sound and Jim Kutta (1995) and Arabian Nights (1996), and a resident at the Blue Note Sunday Sessions. He founded Infrared Records in 1993, released the album Slow Motion on it in 1997, and also recorded for Mo' Wax, Reinforced, Tru Playaz and Defected. Love Is Not A Game featuring Kathy Brown reached number 34 in 2000, and a long partnership with Wickaman produced Crazy World and the album Out Of Sight. A 2017 set at a Rupture party brought him back to 90s-style jungle, heard on Full Circle (2019), Always Be (2020) and a steady run of Infrared releases since.
