Jakes is Jermaine Jacobs, a Bristol MC and producer whose gruff delivery has been a fixture of bass music for two decades. He was Pendulum's MC in their early years and the voice on TC's Next Hype before turning to dubstep production in the late 2000s, founding H.E.N.C.H Recordings and becoming one of the defining producers of that Bristol sound. He has since returned to drum and bass through Critical Music, featuring on King Move and Transmitter with Kasra and Enei, on Critical 163 with Enei on vinyl, and on Black Bandana with Critical Impact in 2025, with a Flexout Audio connection following. Live he works as both MC and DJ, with a gruff delivery that Bristol crowds know on the first bar.
