Kings of the Rollers brought together three established names, Serum, Voltage and Bladerunner, around a shared love of the rolling drum and bass sound that dominated the genre in the mid 1990s. Fronted live by MC Inja, the project signed to Hospital Records and turned what could have been a nostalgia exercise into one of the most successful acts of the modern era. Their records are built on relentless, hypnotic drum patterns and enormous but restrained bass, deliberately avoiding the jump-up drop in favour of tracks that simply keep moving. That approach found an audience far larger than anyone expected and helped bring the rollers sound back to festival main stages. Between them the three members carry decades of experience, and it shows in the arrangements and in the tightness of the live show. Kings of the Rollers proved that a return to the genre's foundations could be its own kind of forward motion.
