LTJ Bukem
Genres: Drum & Bass, Liquid, Atmospheric
Danny Williamson trained as a pianist before discovering breakbeat culture in the late 1980s, and that musical grounding shaped everything that followed. Drawing on jazz fusion, Detroit techno and the ambient end of soul, he built a sound that stood deliberately apart from the darkness the hardcore scene was accelerating toward. His early singles, including "Demon's Theme", "Music" and "Horizons", effectively invented a subgenre. Lush pads, rolling breaks and real musical sophistication at a moment when nobody else was attempting it. He founded Good Looking Records in the early 1990s, and the Logical Progression compilation series crystallised the vision, spawning a family of sub labels that nurtured Peshay, Blu Mar Ten, Seba and many others. His Speed nights at the Mars Bar in London, co-hosted with Fabio, became legendary gatherings for anyone who wanted their drum and bass deep and musical. Bukem is credited with proving the genre could be beautiful as well as powerful, and the atmospheric and liquid styles that thrive today all trace back to him.
LTJ Bukem has 1 upcoming drum & bass event(s) listed on DNBRAVE.
