MC GQ
Genres: Jungle, Drum & Bass
Hackney raised, Gary Francis was on the microphone in the sound system and warehouse party days that fed into acid house, years before jungle had a name. As MC GQ he made his reputation on the AWOL residency at the Paradise Club, where tape packs of his weekly sessions with Randall carried his voice well beyond London, and Micky Finn, Kenny Ken, DJ Hype, Grooverider and Dillinja are among the many DJs he has hosted since. He works as a DJ's MC: clear diction, careful timing and an intensity pitched to whoever is on the decks rather than forced onto the mix. In 1999 he started Emcee Recordings as a route in for new producers, and the label put out early records by Breakage, Jubei, SP:MC, Sabre and Clipz. He was one of the first jungle MCs booked as far afield as Australia and Toronto, and has performed with the Outlook Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall.
MC GQ has 9 upcoming drum & bass event(s) listed on DNBRAVE.
