MC Shabba D
Genres: Jungle, Drum & Bass
Born in Clapton and raised across north and east London, Shabba D came up through the reggae sound systems before taking the mic on pirate radio in 1991 at Weekend Rush, later moving through Kick FM to Kool FM in 1996. Club Telepathy gave him one of his longest early residencies, and by the end of the decade he was working in Ireland, Germany, Switzerland and Canada. His partnership with the late Skibadee, billed as S.A.S., became one of the best known MC pairings in jungle, and both men were founding members of the SASASAS collective alongside Harry Shotta, Stormin, Macky Gee and DJ Phantasy. With manager Paul Ibiza he set up Highly Blessed, a label, agency and events outfit, and helped launch the MC Convention raves. His style is quick, ragga inflected chatting built for old school jungle and heavier drum and bass alike, and he remains a regular on history of jungle bills.
MC Shabba D has 8 upcoming drum & bass event(s) listed on DNBRAVE.
