Napes.
Genres: Jungle, Minimal, Drum & Bass, Breakbeat
Bristol is where Napes learned his craft, studying in the city through the pandemic and writing much of his early catalogue there, though he is now based in London. A grade 8 drummer before he was a raver, he was pointed towards older drum and bass by the Kemistry & Storm DJ-Kicks mix, and his productions fuse 90s jungle breaks with distorted 808s and the menace of grime, occasionally drifting into footwork, garage and 140. Tracks are slow builds in every sense: Hit The Corner, on SUNANDBASS Recordings, runs around six and a half minutes and took four years to finish. The Chopper Gunner EP on Born On Road was the record where he found his angle, and Alix Perez signed an EP to 1985 Music soon after hearing his music. His DJ sets carry the same splintered breaks and rough grime energy into the club.
Napes. has 3 upcoming drum & bass event(s) listed on DNBRAVE.
