Navigator
Genres: Drum & Bass, Jungle
Navigator's time on the microphone goes back to 1979 and the reggae sound systems of north east London, where he grew up between Walthamstow and Tottenham. In 1985 he joined Unity Hi-Power alongside Deman Rockers and Flinty Badman, the pair later known as the Ragga Twins, and when rave took hold he hyped their PAs before becoming a jungle MC in his own right. Joining Kool FM around 1993 put him at the centre of the pirate station's peak years. His ragga toasting reached a wider audience through the Freestylers, who featured him on Ruffneck plus Warning and Get Down Massive from their 1998 album We Rock Hard. He describes jungle as a direct descendant of reggae sound system culture, a lineage he discussed on David Rodigan's 1Xtra show in 2023, and his hosting keeps that heritage in the foreground with patois, chants and a toaster's feel for the riddim.
Navigator has 4 upcoming drum & bass event(s) listed on DNBRAVE.
