Genres: Drum & Bass, Techstep, Minimal

Rupert Parkes built a reputation in the mid 1990s as the most precise producer in drum and bass, an artist who approached breakbeat with the discipline of a minimalist composer. Tracks like "Ni Ten Ichi Ryu" and "The Hidden Camera" used silence and space as compositional tools, drawing on jazz drumming and Japanese cinema in equal measure. His 1997 album Modus Operandi remains a landmark, a record so meticulously constructed that it changed what producers thought was achievable with a sampler. His work through Metalheadz and his own imprints helped define the techstep era while sounding almost nothing like anyone else operating in it. He later moved into film and television scoring in Los Angeles, bringing the same precision to a different discipline, while continuing to release drum and bass. Photek is the genre's great perfectionist, and his influence runs through everything technical that came after.

Photek has 0 upcoming drum & bass event(s) listed on DNBRAVE.
