Ragga Twins
Genres: Jungle, Drum & Bass, Breakbeat
Brothers David and Trevor Destouche, better known as Deman Rockers and Flinty Badman, grew up in Hackney and learned their craft chatting on the Unity sound system in the late 1980s. When Shut Up and Dance sampled Deman's voice from a Unity tape around 1990, the collaboration that followed put dancehall toasting over hardcore breakbeats. Singles such as Spliffhead, Hooligan 69 and Wipe the Needle, plus the 1991 album Reggae Owes Me Money, became part of the blueprint for what turned into jungle. The retrospective Ragga Twins Step Out brought that catalogue to a newer audience, while the Skrillex collaboration Ragga Bomb and an appearance in Plan B's film Ill Manors widened their reach again. Live, they work as a two man MC team, trading patois lines over jungle, drum and bass and wider bass music, with the old anthems woven between newer lyrics.
Ragga Twins has 10 upcoming drum & bass event(s) listed on DNBRAVE.
