Ray Keith
Genres: Jungle, Drum & Bass
Long before jungle had a name, Ray Keith was playing rare groove, soul, funk and jazz, having started DJing as a teenager around Essex and Suffolk. He spent years behind record shop counters, first at City Sounds and then from 1990 at Blackmarket Records, the London shop where DJs cut dubplates and heard new music first. His remix of Orbital's Chime made his name as a producer, and in 1994 he released Terrorist on Moving Shadow as Renegade, a tune still cited as a blueprint for jungle. The same year he founded Dread Recordings, home to Chopper, Yes Yes and Nina's Rinse, and he has also recorded as Dark Soldier and London's Most Wanted. Behind the decks his jungle is bass heavy but soulful, and he also leads Ray Keith Live, a band with drums, bass, keys and a singer that has played Jazz Cafe, Boomtown and Lost Horizon.
Ray Keith has 4 upcoming drum & bass event(s) listed on DNBRAVE.
