Norwich producer Sam Smith records as Upgrade, and he got started the hard way: a borrowed copy of Reason and long sessions rebuilding the drum patterns of tracks he loved until a sound of his own emerged. More than a decade on, his catalogue runs to hundreds of releases. RAM Records has issued several of his singles, among them Won't Hold Back and Start It Again, while Logan D's Low Down Deep, Serial Killaz and Crucast have all carried his jump-up productions. The 2020 First Request EP for Serial Killaz nodded back to his jungle roots and included a collaboration with Newcastle's Scudd. In 2026 the Crucast two-tracker Knock / Revenge went straight to number one on Beatport's drum and bass release chart, and Phenomenon / Jungle Sally followed it on the same label, pairing a heavyweight jump-up roller with a jungle flip. His bookings put him at the rowdy, rave-focused end of the scene.
