Drum and bass on the Dorset coast is spread across several rooms rather than one home. The Old Fire Station, run by the Bournemouth University students' union, is where Enter & Drumfunk spent roughly a decade building a following, bringing Sigma and Netsky to town for the first time and booking Andy C, Shy FX and Chase & Status. The Vault on Poole Hill, a former banking hall split into three rooms with Void Acoustics systems, carries promoters such as Dublab, Rewind Events and Horizon Audio. Bigger touring shows, including Bedlam's raves, go to the O2 Academy in Boscombe, a Grade II listed theatre from 1895 that clubbers of a certain age remember as the Opera House. Smaller crews keep things grassroots: Sektor at Bearcave, and Deeper Drum & Bass with its liquid and jungle leaning sessions at Canvas. Students from the two universities make up much of the crowd in term time. Poole Hill is a short walk uphill from the Triangle and the town centre, so several of these venues can be reached on foot in one evening.
