Derby's drum and bass pedigree comes largely from one crew. Drumsound & Bassline Smith started out in the city in the late 1990s, writing dubplates and DJing at Technique, a club that drew junglists and breakbeat fans from across the region, and their label Technique Recordings followed in 1999. Simon Bassline Smith's Interface night has brought Andy C, DJ Hype, Dillinja and Chase & Status to the city over the years and still runs specials at The Church on St Peter's Street. The rest of the calendar leans towards hard dance, trance and house: Progress, a Derby institution for more than three decades, and Insomniacz, a hard dance brand past its 25th year, carry that side, and bassline revival parties appear too. Expect a handful of D&B dates through the year rather than a weekly circuit.
