Glasgow is a techno city first. The Sub Club, open since April 1987, and institutions like Slam and Soma set the tone, and drum and bass has long been the underdog here, with Edinburgh's Manga once seen as Scotland's main home for the genre. Symbiosis is the city's longest running drum and bass night and leans towards tech and neuro, Midnight Bass runs a student night with big headliners, and Basshaus has taken drum and bass into the Classic Grand. The city also produced Konflict, the duo of Kemal and Rob Data whose Renegade Hardware records, Messiah above all, did much to shape neurofunk; Kemal worked at the 23rd Precinct record shop. The Classic Grand on Jamaica Street, a former cinema and amusement arcade, holds around 850 and hosts most of the bigger bills. Audio, a 200 capacity room in the arches under Central Station that replaced Rockers in 2013, books drum and bass alongside metal, rap and hard dance.
