For a new town, Milton Keynes holds an outsized place in rave history. The Sanctuary, a warehouse on the edge of the city that ran from 1991 to 2004, hosted Helter Skelter, Jungle Fever, Dreamscape and Slammin' Vinyl, and Helter Skelter's line ups leaned further into drum and bass as the 90s went on, with Grooverider, Randall, DJ Rap and Andy C among the regulars. The site was demolished and is now an IKEA, though reunion raves named after its V7 Saxon Street address have been staged at Stadium MK. Week to week, the city's D&B lives at Unit Nine in Old Wolverton, a single room of roughly 500 run with the On The Decks promoters and academy, which has booked Andy C, Hedex and Hybrid Minds and is praised for its sound and lighting. It is walkable from Wolverton station, and reviewers warn it runs very hot on busy nights.
