2Funky began as a Leicester record shop in the late 1990s, and owner Vijay Mistry has since built it into a four space complex on New Park Street with a combined capacity of up to 1,000. The 2Funky Music Café is the main room, holding around 350 with the dance floor and the system, while the Lounge, Street Kitchen and the 50 capacity Lobby handle food, chilling and overflow, and a large part covered outdoor area serves as the smoking and cooling off space all year. The focus is music of Black origin, which has brought Akala, General Levy, the Sugar Hill Gang and Julian Marley through the doors, alongside jungle and hardcore nights and the annual 2Funky festival. Reviewers over several years rate the sound and dance floor highly for a venue this size and report clean toilets; the door is the recurring complaint, so allow time at the entrance.
