Exposed brick, a Funktion-One stack and a roof terrace that serves as the smokers' spot sum up Basing House, a late licence club on Kingsland Road in Shoreditch with room for around 300 across two floors. It won DesignMyNight's Best Club award back in 2011 and made its reputation with house, disco and techno at weekends, and the booth carries CDJ3000s, Technics 1210s and both Pioneer and Allen & Heath mixers. Much of the calendar is hired out, so the night depends heavily on who is promoting. Drum and bass comes from crews such as More Time, the Homeground and Exert partnership that brings MCs and selectors like Eksman and Nicky Blackmarket, and the dnb family sessions. Thursdays have a standing weekly party of their own. Opinions on the room split: some praise the rig and the underground feel, others found the sound thin on their night.
