Down on Pennington Street in Wapping, past Shadwell station, E1 occupies a warehouse unit that previously ran as The Hydra and then Studio Spaces. Concrete columns and bare brick set the tone, a Funktion-One system does the heavy lifting, and Time Out puts the capacity at around 1,600. A newer space in the same complex, Onyx, arrived in 2025, so layouts differ from party to party. Tech house drives a lot of the weekend programme, yet drum and bass has a firm foothold: Breakin Science has made it the home of its end of year London show, Jungle Mania has teamed up with AWOL here, and Bass Face runs multi room free ticket nights with D&B, rollers and breaks in one space and garage or grime in another. Sound and lighting are what reviewers praise again and again, along with bar staff who keep drinks queues moving. The entry queue is a different story on busy nights, and timed entry tickets are enforced, so get there early. Lights tend to come up around 5am.
