Hippos opened in January 2023 in the former Adam and Eve, a historic pub at 207 High Street, two minutes on foot from Swansea station. Inside are three adjoining open plan rooms with sofas, murals and industrial decor, and out back a large beer garden with a graffiti wall hosts summer sessions; CAMRA and reviewers both note it is bigger than it looks from the street. By day it is a sports bar serving food and cask and craft beer, and by night it runs bass led DJ nights, small gigs and sound system clashes. Drum and bass and jungle arrive through promoter nights alongside dub, house and techno, and Roni Size, Mandidextrous and Aries have all played. It opens until 2am at weekends, and reviewers agree staff and regulars look out for each other.
