Down the curve of Victoria Street in the Old Town, the Liquid Room has been one of Edinburgh's main late-night rooms since 1997. A fire that started in a neighbouring restaurant kitchen in December 2008 gutted the building, and it came back in 2010 after a rebuild of roughly 3.2 million pounds, adding the basement Annexe a year later. The main hall takes about 650, mostly standing, with a balcony overlooking the floor and a d&b audiotechnik rig that regulars rate highly. Bass bookings sit among touring bands and house and techno promoters: PRTY bring bass house names such as Junkie Kid, while Nightvision have previously brought drum and bass headliners including Calyx and Teebee and DJ Zinc. Club nights are strictly 18+, with only a passport or driving licence accepted as ID, and bar prices are on the steep side, so plan accordingly.
