The Volks

Down on Madeira Drive under the seafront arches, the Volks has been putting on raves for more than thirty years and has barely changed its look since the nineties. Capacity is about 300, split between a ground floor main room and a basement club and bar holding around 60, and regulars insist the rig hits harder than in venues several times the size. Drum and bass, jungle, dubstep and psytrance fill most weekends. Degs held the mic for the Frequency sessions here from 2011 and still brings Degs & Friends back, while touring bills stretch from Sigma to Zero T at Vandal and Flexout's day raves. There is no dress code, door and bar staff are consistently described as warm, and big names fill the room quickly, so buy tickets in advance. By day the same site runs a terrace cafe facing the beach.
