Thekla
East Mud Dock, The Grove, Bristol, BS1 4RB
A former German cargo ship tied up at East Mud Dock, Thekla has been part of Bristol harbour life since the early 1980s, first as a floating theatre and then, from the 1990s, as a club whose stage hosted the city's drum and bass boom, Roni Size and Reprazent among them. The team behind Nottingham's Rock City took it on in 2006 and run it as a gig venue in the evening and a club after hours, with the main room down in the hull holding around 400 and a top deck bar above. Bass music still carries the Friday programme. Dazed Muzic book everything from General Levy's jungle ragga to Basstripper's heavyweight sets, and Charlie Tee's UNITEE brings local DJs aboard for themed specials. Expect steep stairs between decks; step-free access is limited, so check the venue's accessibility page before buying a ticket.
Thekla has 4 upcoming drum & bass event(s) on DNBRAVE.
